The objective is to create a relationship and a dialogue with the site, a strong connection with the building and the land, that responds to the environment as well as to the client taking in account climatic regionalism. We are interested in buildings that make a place, that mark a place, belong to a place.
Each building should have use of sustainable materials and incorporate sustainable design, really, this just makes for good architecture.
Architetto Pty Ltd values clear and considered design as the key to commercially sound, environmentally sustainable development. The complex concerns of quality, budget, time frame, building practice, council requirements and environmental performance are resolved with unique and 'hands on' solutions.
Constant reinvention of our architecture brings surprising diversity to the completed projects, with an on-going sense of exploration and discovery. Low-energy use and a durability of design and construction give each project a sustainable basis.
The experience of architecture is heightened through a building's engagement with landscape and climate, the interplay of light, and the sensuality of materials. The art of architecture is achieved through meaning and metaphor, light and sculpture, counterpoint & contrast as in music, recalling of memory and embodiment of ideas.
We are passionate about the use of the most sustainable of all materials: Rammed earth both on its own and in combination with appropriate materials to create the ideal solar passive living environment.
Rammed earth continues to live up to its reputation through the centuries as a sustainable and thermally efficient construction method when combined with correct solar-passive design principles.
The many advantages of building with Rammed earth include superior insulation, strength and durability, low maintenance, fire proofing, load bearing, pest deterrence and a healthy & pure non toxic environment.
Its beauty and the pleasure of building with this ultimate sustainable material is described in the results achieved in Australia & worldwide.
Giuseppe Calabrese is an award winning architect and has recently published chapters in two books both in italian and english, articles for the Architects Association of Australia and magazines focusing on sustainability such as 'About People' and 'Dirt' of the Earth Building Association of Australia. Architetto proposes that earthen homes are the healthiest housing in the world; and establishes the appropriateness of earthen building in every cultural context, under all socio-economic conditions, from third-world communities to first-world countryside, from Arabian deserts to American urban jungles. In the age of collapse and converging emergencies, the solution to many of our ills might just be getting back to basics, for material reasons and for spiritual reasons, both personal and political. Regrettably, architecture in out times has become increasingly mechanized, yet, a quarter of the world population do not have access to adequate housing. On the fringes of environmental issues, a range of disciplines in study, research, and practice associated with building structures of earth have re-emerged in the modern era.
